Art historian and Curator Laura Cottingham describes in this article the difficulties of researching lesbian art as well as the perspectives for art history in general. She is mainly interested in dicovering lesbian artists to unveil the lesbian history and shows the traditional methods to heterosexualize or ignore lesbian artists. Cottingham looks for a common identity of 'lesbian' in the tradition of the women's movement of the 70ies.

Whitney Davis, professor of art history at Northwestern University summarizes in this essay many years of research he has done in the history of gay and lesbian studies. He gives a detailed overview of methods and beginnings of modern 'queer theory', as well as showing its changing of paradigm.
